About Us

 

The Friends of Weymouth Woods is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group of volunteers dedicated to preserving and protecting Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve. We help supplement the park’s resources with volunteerism and donations. Members share a love for the beauty and ecological significance of this unique longleaf pine ecosystem.

The Friends work together with park staff to provide support and resources for:

  • Maintaining park trails and facilities

  • Increasing awareness and appreciation of nature through educational programs

  • Encouraging community involvement at outreach events

  • Promoting ecological conservation and preservation

It's Bat Appreciation Week and there are so many reasons to appreciate bats! Did you know that a single bat can eat 600-1,000 mosquitos per hour?! Weymouth Woods has 7 recorded species of bats, this one here is an Eastern Red Bat.

When you eat too much pie on Pi Day and need to take a nap on the nearest horizontal (or vertical) surface. This Hoary bat gets it.
The bees are back in town! These little mounds are the work of Plasterer bees - an important spring pollinator. Don't worry, they tend to BEE good neighbors and are more interested in flowers than stinging passing hikers.
